Finding your puppy’s teeth on the couch or carpet can be terrifying for any pet parent. However, most pet people know that it’s a normal phenomenon and an indication that your puppy’s baby tooth is getting replaced. Like in humans, teething is a painful phase for puppies and kittens. Puppies tend to chew on things, especially household upholstery, bite hands, and gnaw on anything to reduce the pain.

If you have a puppy or kitten, you should be prepared for their teething or else worry about your furniture and shoes later. If you are unsure what to do with a teething puppy, it’s always an excellent option to bring them to Virginia Beach Veterinary clinic.

Here are a few tips that will help you make your puppy’s teething experience less painful and less stressful.

Puppies and kittens are curious creatures that love exploring the world around them. While developing into adults, they chew on things and bite to understand their surroundings better. Being a responsible pet parent, you must be aware of significant development phrasing. In dogs, teething is one such crucial growth phase, which is also painful and stressful. In dogs, the teething starts at four months and may last for a few weeks. During this time, make every attempt to instill good chewing habits in your pet.

Keep Chew Toys Handy: Chew toys are some of those things every dog parents should buy, especially when their puppies are teething. Chew toys help puppies minimize the discomfort caused during teething. Like human babies, puppies also get bored of their toys quickly. So, always keep a variety of chew toys for your pup. Whenever you find your puppy chewing on your stuff or furniture, bring their attention to the toy and encourage them to chew their toys only. Rubber chew toys make for an ideal choice for small puppies. To make the chew time more fun and less painful, you can fill the toy with treats. This will also encourage them to chew on toys only.

Ice Cubes: Most puppies like to chew on ice cubes. The cold ice cubes soothe their aching gums, and thus they enjoy munching on it. Ice cubes are also an economical choice and can be made whenever needed. You can also offer them cold toys to help them alleviate the pain.

Herbal Drink: Herbs like aloe vera, lavender, and chamomile are made into a herbal drink for their pain relief properties. Such herbs can also be feed to puppies for their aching gums and tooth. Just boil the herbs in water and put little dry food to make it delicious for your pet. If your puppy doesn’t lap on it, inject the herbs into their mouth with the use of a needless syringe.

Pain Medication: If the home remedies are not working and your puppy is still in pain, consult a doctor from veterinary clinic Virginia Beach. Vets will prescribe pain medications, which will be useful in soothing the pain and discomfort. Oral care and dental hygiene are essential in pets as well. Thus, it’s advised to conduct a self-oral assessment in pets every month.
